Q: Word & Works?
My new Compaq came with M/S Works 6.0. Is Word 2000 the same as or similar to 6.0? Was about to purchase "For Dummies" but couldn't find 6.0, only 2000.
A: Word & Works?
MS Works and MS Word are two different programs. Think of MS Works as the poor cousin to MS Word. So be careful buying a dummies book that you buy it for the correct program. They are not the same.
Q: Active Desktop
I am having problems with website entries on my desktop. They are appearing two and three at a time and I donut know where they are coming from. Can you tell me how I can remove them from my desktop? Thanking you in advance,
A: Active Desktop
Not entirely clear on what is happening but it sounds like you have turned on Active Desktop and then show web content on Desktop.
Right mouse click on an empty place on your Desktop and see if Active Desktop is checked, if it is uncheck it.
Let me know if this fixes it for you and if not be sure and tell me what version of Windows you are using.
Q: XP Recycle Bin & Disk Cleanup
In this month's Q&A column, I was interested in your comments re: removing the Recycle Bin from the Disk Cleanup settings in the Maintenance Wizard. Tried following your instructions but XP doesn't show the Maintenance Wizard so I could click Change My Maintenance Settings. Picked around but couldn't find it.
A: XP Recycle Bin & Disk Cleanup
Look under Scheduled Tasks and see if the Recycle Bin is scheduled for any automatic cleanup.
If it is simply select it and choose Delete This Item from the Folder Task on the left side of your screen.
To find: Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Scheduled Tasks

Q: Computer Locks Up & Re-Boots
Recently I had what appeared to be phone line trouble while on line. After things settled down I started to have Outlook Express version 5 problems.
1. If I lose my connection and then click the disconnect icon the computer locks up and in about 30 seconds it reboots.
2. When I complete my email session and disconnect via the disconnect icon the computer locks up and it then reboots.
3. When I complete my email session and log out of Outlook Express there is no problem and I can continue the net. I can use some guidance.
A: Computer Locks Up & Re-Boots
Hard to say what exactly is going on here?
I would start with my connection software by uninstalling it and then reinstalling it.
Let me know how that part goes.
Follow-Up:
Thanks for the suggestion. Right now it is ok. I followed the DR Watson program that the adobe font manager was corrupted. I uninstalled it
