Q: Trend PC-cillin antivirus software?
When you use Netscape, Outlook 2000 or Outlook Express to check mail, the settings may be changed to "Localhost" in the Post Office Protocol (POP) server settings and "account name/pop server name" in the Account Name box on the Server tab.
A: Trend PC-cillin antivirus software?
To work around this issue, disable the POP3 scan feature of the Trend PC-cillin software:
In the status area of the taskbar, double-click the PC-cillin icon.
Click to clear the Enable POP3 Scan check box.
Reconfigure your POP3 e-mail account in Outlook with the correct settings.
Q: Virus Scan Attachments
Jim Cox cautions in his article Jan. 2002 one should not open attachments without scanning them for viruses first. Running McAfee 6.0 can you be specific about how to scan attachments using Outlook Express for e-mail before opening them? Thanks.
A: Virus Scan Attachments
I believe what he meant was that after you download an attachment, the next step is to have your virus program scan the file to make sure it is virus free before you use or open this file.
Note: Make sure your Virus Program is up to date with the latest virus definition files.
Open your Virus Program
Choose Scan for Viruses Now
Navigate to where the file is you wish to scan
Then choose Scan
To make this task easier for you, create a Folder for Downloads. Mine is titled Downloads.
Then download everything to this folder.
When you need to scan any of these files simply navigate to the Download Folder.
Q: What is the difference HTML or Plain Text?
What is the best way to send an e-mail?
A: What is the difference HTML or Plain Text?
When you want to add special emphasis or structure to message text-such as bold text, color, or
Bulleted lists-you can use Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), the standard for formatting text for the Internet.
HTML formatting also enables you to include graphics and hyperlinks to Web sites in your messages.
If the recipient's e-mail reading program cannot read HTML, the message is displayed as plain text with an HTML file attached.
I create all my email in Rich Text (HTML) format but Reply to messages in the format that they were sent to me. You can configure your email program to do this.
Since you have no way of know how the recipient's email program is set up the best way for you to create email is to use Rich Text (HTML) format. Most email programs are capable of displaying email in HTML format.
Q: Outlook Express Stationary
For some reason I am unable to click anywhere that I use to choose a different stationary.
A: Outlook Express Stationary
They (Computers) are a bit frustrating sometimes). Click on the little pointer to the right of the Create Mail Icon and then choose one? If not go to the Menu Bar select Message, New Message Using and make your choice.
Choose Select Stationary and you will see a list of all or you can create one of your own.
