Q:    Restoring the Recycle Bin Icon

I wonder if you have any suggestions on how I can recover the Recycle Bin icon on my Desktop?  I can send things to the Recycle Bin, but for the life of me, I can't seem to locate it anywhere. I'm in Windows 98SE, 128 MB RAM, Gateway 600 MHz, 20 GB Hard Drive. There was a tip in the Monday Business Section of the Tampa Trib a couple of weeks ago on this subject and it suggested right clicking on the desktop and arranging icons, but this didn't do the trick. Thanks for your help.

A:    Restoring the Recycle Bin Icon

You can't delete the Recycle Bin so it is probably out of sight somewhere on your Desktop. But if you still don't see it, try this: Open My Computer, locate your Recycle Bin and drag it to your Desktop.

Q:    Restoring the Recycle Bin Icon Part II

Thanks so much for your prompt reply to my concern. Did as you suggested--Clicked on My Computer; C Drive; and couldn't find either a folder or file regarding the Recycle Bin.  Went further to Programs and Program files with no success either. If, by chance, the icon is "off the screen" how do I go about trying to find it?  Clicking on Auto Arrange Icons, or Arrange Icons by name doesn't do anything that I can tell. Could I re-install W98SE using a "Custom" installation?  How about if I upgrade to Windows ME? (I have the CD's for both programs).

A:    Restoring the Recycle Bin Icon Part II

Before you do all that, try this.

According to the MS Knowledge Base here is the solution. (This isn't exactly what is happening with you but the end result is what you are looking for)

This behavior can occur if the Desktop.ini file has been removed from the Recycled folder. This can occur if you select the "Delete unnecessary files from the Recycle Bin" option in the Windows 98 Maintenance Wizard.

To resolve this issue, remove the Recycle Bin from the Disk Cleanup settings in the Maintenance Wizard

Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Maintenance Wizard.

Click Change my maintenance settings or schedule, and then click OK. Continue through the wizard until you reach the Delete Unnecessary Files page. On that page, click Settings. Click to clear the Recycle Bin check box, and then proceed to the end of the wizard.

NOTE: Even if you do not follow these steps, the Recycle Bin icon is restored the next time you delete a file and then empty the Recycle Bin.

One last thing to do here, right click on the Start Button and choose Explore.

Now right above Computer should be Desktop, click on it and look at the right pane.

Do you see Recycle Bin over there? If you do, right click on it and choose create shortcut, then copy the shortcut to your Desktop.

Q:    Include Message Text in Reply using Outlook Express

Thanks for providing a way to re-send forwarded email. I have been trying to do that for a long time.

HOWEVER I ran into a hitch. i.e.:  When I click on "reply" the text does not show up and the message is sent out but with no text in it.  What am I reading wrong in your answer to that question?

I did not have the "include message" marked in the machine but when I did it did not solve the problem... BUT your second recommendation did the trick. The paste thing did it! I test by sending to myself and all worked well. I want to thank you for solving my problem so fast. I am 85 yrs old and retired from the Telephone industry.  During the " cold war" I had Top Secret clearance and engineered missile launching systems for the 5th army via Michigan Bell.  Computers came into our home only about 5 yrs ago and as you know it is so different that sometimes us old time communication people need a little help... Thank you again so much for you time in helping me. I DO have a few other problems that I got myself into that need help but will address that that. Thank you from Kings Point.

A:    Include Message Text in Reply using Outlook Express

Maybe you don't have the Include message in reply box checked. To find out:

Open Outlook Express

Select Tools

Select Options

Select the Send Tab

Look down the list and click in the box by Include message in reply

Select Apply

Select OK

Or you may need to do this:

What you need to do is first open the email

Now highlight the text you want to send.

Next choose Edit, Copy

Now open a new email and click anywhere in the body area.

Choose Edit, Paste.

This will paste just what you highlighted from the original message without all the names and address.

Fill in the To: and Subject: line and add anything you want to say then Send as usual.

If you are using another email program other than Outlook Express let me know.

Q:    Outlook Express Export/Import Address Book

I have a new computer running micro 98 second ed. and older model running micro 98 and cannot export address book from old and import on new. I get window says cannot import because of error. That's all it says. I export to a floppy using address A:\addbk.wab Missing a step someplace or they are not compatible? Any suggestions?

A:    Outlook Express-Export/Import Address Book

You do want to Export as a csv file, which is a text file. At that point you need to click Browse, to Drive A: give the file a name, like address book, then click Save, Next. Now you will see the fields choo0se them all by clicking in each little box and select Finish. That should do it.

Q:    Outloo0k Express-Export/Import Address Book II

Line 3 /4 is where it goes bad after select text file I do not get all fields I get "save as" window and it wants to export as a csv file (I think this is a text file). What do I do with the save as box--?

Jim,

A:    Outlook Express-Export/Import Address Book II

From what you described, you are doing what is necessary. Maybe your file is bad.

Try Exporting from Outlook Express and not your Address Book.

File, Export, Address Book

Select Text File and then choose all the Fields.

Then Import into OE, File, Import, Other Address Book, choose Text File.

Let me know how this turns out for you.

Follow-Up: Outlook Express-Export/Import Address Book II

I finally did it with some imagination not skill.  After select file, I get "save as".  (1) I did not give it an extension ex. but used a:\ address bk. (2) on import I went to OTHER ADDRESS BOOK and then selected text file and then what file I gave it A:\ address bk and it completed ok. The part that had me confused was the file extension Thanks for the lead.
