Q:        Nuisances... "Windows Critical Update Notification"

The name of my (uncontrollable automatic run every 5 minutes) nuisance is "Windows Critical Update Notification"
I can change its settings in its property window, or stop it running or pause it, or even delete it. However, after a boot up it once again starts its every 5 minute dance on my hard drive. How do I kill it?

A:         Nuisances... "Windows Critical Update Notification"

From your Desktop go to Start, Settings, and Control Panel Open Automatic Updates. Click in the space next to Turn off automatic updating. I will update my computer manually then click on OK.

Q:        Windows ME, DOS & WinZip

I received a virus alert and fix from ZDNet. The download instructions say to choose a location to unzip the tool and then reboot in DOS. What does it mean to choose a location to unzip, and how do you reboot in DOS? I have WinME.

A:         Windows ME, DOS & WinZip

Windows ME does not allow us to reboot to DOS.
What you need to do is use your Start Up Disk to boot up with. Put the 3 1/2" Start Up Disk in Drive A and then turn on
your computer. After it boots up you can go to Drive C by typing this command:  C: (hit enter) Now you are in C drive and should be able to follow their instructions.

The file you downloaded from ZDNet must have been in a compressed file format called .zip. To unzip the file you need to have WinZip installed. WinZip is available at www.winzip.com Choose a location to unzip: You must tell the program where to decompress the files. I use this location: C:\Windows\Temp
