E-mail questions we get from readers.
Q: Should I turn off the HTML formatting for all outgoing email? There are 2 options HTML and Plain text. Sometimes I can't read other's email. What is the advantage of sending it HTML "Help" doesn't tell me why I should or shouldn't, just how to change it.
A: Should I turn off the HTML formatting for all outgoing email?
HTML or Rich Text format is the one I use for 99% of outgoing mail. This format allows you to do formatting you can’t do with plain text such as hyperlinks to a web site or an email address. Then when it is received all the recipient has to do is click the hyperlink to go to that site or return mail. The other 1% when I use plain text is replying to AOL mail. AOL is the loner of all emails because they are well, AOL.
If the person's mail program you are writing to doesn't read HTML it will be displayed in plain text with an attachment.
So if you want to add special emphasis or structure to message text—such as bold, color, or bulleted lists—you can use Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), the standard for formatting text for the Internet. Using HTML formatting also enables you to add graphics and links to Web sites in your messages.
If you are using Outlook Express for your mail program you can set it up so your message replies are sent in a format that the originator's mail program can read. In the main window, click the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Send tab. Check the Reply to messages using the format in which they were sent check box. To use HTML formatting on individual messages, in an e-mail message window make sure HTML formatting is turned on by clicking the Format menu. HTML formatting is turned on when a black dot appears by Rich Text (HTML).
Q: Oh, another question. Know of anyone using the priceline.com for groceries at Winn Dixie? Is it worth it? That might be a neat survey question for the newsletter or email letter. :)
A: Survey: Priceline.com is it worth it?
OK Member, E-mail your answers to the address below.
Q: I saw where you can check on your sent mail to see when it was received and if it was read. They said go to sent mail and then click on status. I did this and it says I cannot check on internet sent mail? Does this mean I am not so equipped or that the whole thing is a myth?
A: AOL Confirm E-mail was received.
Yes, you can do that but it only works on mail sent to and from AOL. You can also be notified when you AOL mail is read if you like. Just put a check mark in the box located at the bottom of your write window titled: Request “return receipt” from AOL Members.
Q: I have
E-mail messages in my Personal Filing Cabinet, but I cannot read any of them.
What must I do to view these messages?
A: Read E-mail messages in my Personal Filing Cabinet. What must I do to view these messages?
To
read anything in your Personal Filing Cabinet you simply double-click the
message or select a message and then click on Open at the lower left of your
PFC window.
Why AOL calls it Read in one place and Open in another is a mystery.
